It’s rare to find a trailer that confuses and intrigues me at the same time. Logan, the first official trailer was released today and fits that very criteria.

The music, I think, is what throws me. That and the way this looks like some sort of Little Miss Sunshine drama-adventure. The dynamic between Logan/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart), just seems a little odd. And I can’t skip past the fact that Professor X looks so frail and old. I thought his death in The Last Stand was upsetting, not sure how they’ll address it in Logan. For sure you see comparisons to images used in that film. There seems to be a different flow to this movie. Judging from this first trailer, I don’t really see the excitement or anticipation present in the films before it. Maybe it’s because a great deal of the trailer is spent on the characters talking to each other, usually in a car, and then the action comes in for just a moment towards the end. The ‘set in the future’ aspect is definitely interesting, it’ll be interesting to see how this story fits in amongst the X-Men world.

Obviously the little girl plays an important role and one can only presume that perhaps this is the setup for what comes next when looking at Wolverine. Female Wolverine, as was reported over the years, looks to be the next big thing in spin off franchises. So this will be a good indication as to the direction the next phase of the X-Men world will take. Needless to say, you get a real sense of passing on the mantle from what we see, and have seen, in the latest Marvel films.
