Ruben Guthrie a new Aussie comedy written and directed by Brendan Cowell. It is a story surrounding a party boy, Guthrie, who ultimately has his life turned upside down following events that lead to him be challenged to change. The advertising young gun is given an ultimatum by his now ex-fiancée, “one year without a drink, she’ll give him another chance.”
“Ruben Guthrie is the story of one man not only battling the bottle, but the city that won’t let him put it down.”
The film stars well known Aussie actors, Patrick Brammall as Ruben, Alex Dimitriades as Damian, Abbey Lee Kershaw as Zoya, Harriet Dyer as Virginia, Brenton Thwaites as Chet, Robyn Nevin as Susan and Jack Thompson as Peter. Ruben Guthrie is written and directed by Brendan Cowell, adapted from his play of the same name, first staged at Sydney’s Belvoir Street Theatre to a sell out season in 2009.
This film is the perfect example to showcase the potential Australians as actors, writers and producers have within the landscape of society. Taking something and recreating it on a new platform. This has been achieved before with great success (think Strictly Ballroom) and who knows where this could take Ruben Guthrie?
