Maleficent Preview

The time has come. For the past 6 months I’ve been looking forward to the release of Disney’s upcoming epic, Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie.

Earlier in the year I attended a special screening of Sleeping Beauty, and that only heightened my joy in having my favourite Disney villains’ history explored in depth.

If the trailers are anything to go by, it looks to be quite magical and enchanting, with beautiful and breathtaking imagery. Add to that a performance by Jolie that in my opinion, is quite capturing, and is a testament to director Robert Stromberg, whose creative vision is brought to life through the production design as well as the performances.

I love the approach taken to promote the movie, the featurettes released have really grabbed the attention of fans worldwide with the Maleficent Facebook page reaching over 2 million likes. With Lana Del Rays haunting rendition of Once Upon a Dream adding another level of excellence to the already spectacular vision.

Weeks ago fans were treated to a behind the scenes look at the movie, where stars such as Jolie and Elle Fanning (Princess Aurora aka Sleeping Beauty) talked about the essence of the film. Fans were also treated to their first glimpse of Aussie favourite Brenton Thwaites portraying the dashing Prince Phillip.

Then to only heighten the excitement and thrill felt by fans worldwide a scene titled, ‘Awkward situation’ was released. Where Jolie transforms and absolutely captures the very being of Maleficent. Her characterisation is absolutely magnificent. The scene, shot brilliantly I might add, truly, truly harks back to the animated film, whilst also creating this new, crisp, unique quality to the scene.

I’ve always wanted to see Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent take form in a live action film and I’m sure I won’t be disappointed by this beautiful and compelling result.
